Almost everybody knows that carbs are bad for you. Now the question begs to be asked, why are the deadly effects of carbs not brought to light through medical exploration? With all the thousands of ”nutritional experts” out there, shouldn’t carbohydrate intolerance bear much more weight? And why do the medical “authorities“ keep ignoring the fact and treatment for obesity?

In 1864 William Banting (a notable undertaker in London) wrote the famous “Letter on Corpulence“ exposing the role of carbohydrates in obesity, but a blind eye has been turned on the many medical reports supporting the letter. Could there possibly be a connection between the millions financed and given to the departments of nutritional education by the manufacturers of refined carbohydrate foods? Makes one wonder who is in the driving seat of the food and health industry.

When we talk about carbohydrates, the basic substance we are talking about is SUGAR! Dr John Yudkin states that we consume more sugar now in two weeks than we did in a year, three centuries ago. Thousands of years ago our basic diet was meat and very little carbs and the carbs we did consume was in an unrefined form. The farming industry caused an increase in the carbohydrate production but in the early ages it was still unrefined. Refined foods are artificially concentrated by a milling or refining process and it adapted to the request and increased demands of the foods, due to the advertisement industry selling it as healthy and filling foods.

Just take a look at food advertising and the way that shelves are stocked in supermarkets. Clearly, we are victims of carbohydrate poisoning – a fatal disease!

Even if you are aware of how bad carbs/sugar are for you, it is no easy task staying away from the poison, as so many times sugar is cleverly concealed in the food, drinks or spices we consume. Advertisements tell us to start our day with “healthy” cereals “full of whole grain goodness” but still contain so much sugar. Or to fill up through the day with snacks and diet drinks that contains “no sugar” but actually means it has almost no nutritional value and only empty carbs.

The best answer to the dilemma is to educate yourself and read the labels. The major success movie That Sugar Film is a 2014 Australian documentary starring and directed by Damon Gameau. The film looks at hidden sugars in foods and the effect it can have on the human body. Take a look and you will be surprised to see how well sugar is hidden…
