Having withdrawal symptoms from sugar? Here’s what you can do!

With sugar addiction being likened to cocaine addiction it is no surprise that there is a percentage of people who experience withdrawal symptoms from sugar, which may include headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, muscle cramps or irritability. However, good news is that if you can ride out the symptoms, they should disappear within four or five days.

Protein is a great source of curbing sugar cravings, as protein digest more slowly and keeps your blood sugar levels stable. You can also try increasing your salad/vegetable intake for a few days to ride out the worst symptoms. Be sure you are drinking enough water and taking a vitamin/mineral supplement that contains magnesium, calcium and potassium.

If you don’t want to go cold turkey, try training your taste buds to enjoy things that are not sweet. Leave one sweet thing every week. For instance, first stop having dessert after dinner. Then reduce your sugar spoon by spoon in your coffee, tea and cereal. Pretty soon you will enjoy the taste of the food and drink for what it is, instead of for the sugar and the rush…
